How to play Make Trying Safer
A friend wants to ask a question but worries it sounds basic. Which response supports their choice? Read the scenario and consider three replies. Choose a considerate response without guessing somebody’s private feelings.
Your starting point
A friend wants to ask a question but worries it sounds basic. Which response supports their choice?
The rules
Read the scenario and all the possible replies. Choose the response that respects the person’s stated needs and choices. Review the feedback and reflect on the wording.
A helpful approach
Use only the information in the scenario. Look for a response that asks, listens or explains clearly without assuming what another person secretly thinks. Keep the imagined action low stakes, and remember that asking for support can be part of the attempt.
After the game
What made one response leave more room for the other person’s own choice? What small question or first attempt would feel more possible with a little practical support from someone?
There is no need to turn a small moment into a perfect performance. Play again if you want to explore it, or leave it here and take the thought into your day.
The feeling behind it
Ask the question, begin the draft or admit you need help. Courage does not require danger, spectacle or pretending not to hesitate.
A practice of skill, mutual respect and historical resistance inspires learning courage; this game does not teach capoeira.
Read our courage story, inspired by Capoeira circle in Afro-Brazilian communities, Brazil. The UNESCO: Capoeira circle provides the source context.
