How to play Ordinary Marvels
Match words that could describe a small outdoor discovery. Turn over word cards and discover four matching pairs. This short memory round connects familiar words with a small reflection, using a shared arrangement for this challenge.
Your starting point
Match words that could describe a small outdoor discovery.
The rules
Turn over two cards at a time. Match all four identical word pairs. Remember where each word appeared and try again after a mismatch.
A helpful approach
Look at the positions as well as the words. After a mismatch, remember one useful location before choosing the next two cards. Look for a shape, texture or change you can describe before trying to explain what it means.
After the game
Which word stayed with you after the cards were matched? Which familiar thing might surprise you if you gave it a second, more attentive look today?
There is no need to turn a small moment into a perfect performance. Play again if you want to explore it, or leave it here and take the thought into your day.
The feeling behind it
Look closely at a leaf, a cloud or a familiar street. Wonder starts with attention and leaves room for questions.
Cherry-blossom viewing inspires attentive looking. Hanami is a seasonal practice, not the Japanese equivalent of wonder.
Read our wonder story, inspired by Hanami in Japan. The Japan National Tourism Organization: Japan in April provides the source context.
